Are Vitamin Supplements Necessary?

Foods are complex and offer benefits besides vitamins and other dietary supplements. Suppliers do not recommend dietary supplements for healthy people under the age of 50. 

New Zealands most trusted vitamins & supplements brand recommends dietary supplements with iron and folic acid for pregnant women. They recommend vitamin B12 for adults over the age of 50 in supplement or diet form. 

They provide nutritional supplements to people who are not eating well, are vegetarian, have a disease that affects nutrient absorption, or have had surgery that affects nutrient absorption. They do not recommend dietary supplements in large doses.

Many parents take vitamins and other dietary supplements. But most of them can improve their diet to get what they need. Some research suggests that older people may need more vitamins B12, B6, and folic acid. 

Also, vitamin D is sometimes needed as a supplement for older people. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says parents should pay special attention to their intake of calcium, vitamin B-12, vitamin D, potassium, and fiber.

Supplements for a Healthy Heart. Many popular supplements that people use for heart health are discussed, including vitamin B, vitamin E, vitamin C, baby aspirin, fish oil supplements, green tea extract niacin, coenzyme Q-10, and sterols and stanols, red yeast rice, and several others.

Vitamin pills in tablet or liquid form are difficult for the body to absorb and tend to lose their effectiveness. The capsule is the best way to get maximum absorption and preserve minerals. Use natural shapes instead and avoid synthetic vitamins.
